This course will increase interpreter’s awareness of the complex process that is ethical decision making. Through lecture and case study analysis participants will be exposed to origins and applications of modern ethics and how they apply to the the field of Sign Language Interpretation.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify common personality types and which best applies to each participant.
  2. Gain a fundamental understanding of the nuances that separate moral code and ethical decision making.
  3. Apply self analysis tools to field work decision making in conjunction with the ASL interpreting standards of practice

As MasterWord’s Director of Interpreting Services, Cory McMahon leads the company’s overall aspect of operational service delivery. He offers more than 10 years of quality leadership as a highly accomplished professional, mentor, trainer, presenter, certified sign language interpreter with diverse experience poised to transition solid background in a corporate environment as well as the industry of professional interpreting services.

Prior to joining MasterWord, he held the position of Director for Interpreting Services for a large Video Relay Service provider. In addition, he has provided numerous professional trainings including medical, educational, and professional practice within the language industry.

Cory has been awarded with the National Interpreter Certification (NIC) by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID Certification #52092) and has also been awarded the State of Texas’ Board for Evaluations of Interpreters (BEI) Advanced Certification (BEI# 23381).
